Ojai valley youth foundation building lives Inc

Building Lives Inc.

Vision:

To empower, inspire, and connect public/private high school students with adult mentors.

Specifics:

BLINC started out as a ten week program bringing students together from all backgrounds to share insights, work through struggles, and feel supported in their journey.  It was also driven to give young people a new perspective into the lives of mentors coming from different professions and life paths.

Workshops are now ongoing and will run through May of 2012.  This progress is due to the support from such generous community members that have stood behind the program financially.  BLINC is held each Monday night from 5pm-7pm at Nordhoff High School in Room B-4.  Free Dinner is always provided:)

Process:

BLINC is broken down into 3 themes: Character Building/Empowerment, Vocational Training/Role Models, Storytelling/Goal Setting.  The first hour of every night is used as an Open Mic Forum where teens read personal poetry pieces or perform songs.  The second hour features a new guest speaker, group activities, and questions.  Mentors have ranged from passionate business owners to young professionals to free spirits that have traveled the world learning.

Outcome:

Each teen will gain self-confidence, a deeper understanding of their potential, and a different approach to establishing and accomplishing goals.
